In a move that has sent shockwaves through the local football scene, the entire executive committee of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) resigned today. This unprecedented decision follows a massive scandal involving the naturalization of seven foreign-born players. FIFA had recently imposed heavy sanctions and fines after determining that fraudulent documents were used to support the players' eligibility.

The committee, which was only 11 months into its four-year term, decided to step down to protect the association's dwindling credibility. Acting FAM president Mohamad Yusoff Mahadi stated that the mass resignation was a voluntary act of collective responsibility. This allows the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to conduct a full review of FAM’s internal governance without interference.

FIFA's investigation found that original documents from the players' countries of origin (including Argentina and Brazil) contradicted the claims made by FAM officials regarding their Malaysian ancestry. While the Court of Arbitration for Sport has temporarily halted the ban on the players, the administrative damage to FAM is severe. A congress is expected to be convened soon to appoint an interim leadership.
