Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s "Reformasi" agenda is gaining significant momentum with the introduction of new oversight mechanisms for state-linked companies (GLCs). Following a recent scandal in East Malaysia, there have been intensified calls for a permanent parliamentary watchdog to monitor large-scale public projects. The Prime Minister reiterated that transparency is the only path to sustainable economic growth.

The new reforms include a mandatory public declaration of assets for all top GLC executives and a more rigorous vetting process for government contracts. Anwar has argued that these measures are necessary to "cleanse the system" of cronyism and ensure that public funds are used for the benefit of all citizens. He has faced some pushback from political opponents, but public support for the anti-graft drive remains high.

Economists believe that these governance reforms will improve Malaysia's ranking in the Global Corruption Perception Index. This, in turn, is expected to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI) from companies looking for stable and ethical markets. The government is also planning to launch a nationwide education campaign to promote integrity among the youth.
