Direct and indirect negotiations between envoys from the Trump administration and Iran's foreign minister resumed today in Oman. Both sides reported a "positive atmosphere" as they attempted to address the ongoing tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program and regional security.

Despite the diplomatic progress, the U.S. announced a new package of oil sanctions against Iran almost immediately after the talks concluded. The White House stated these measures are necessary to maintain pressure while a formal agreement is being drafted, highlighting the delicate "pressure and dialogue" strategy being employed.

Iran's top diplomat described the session as a "good start" but emphasized that any lasting deal must involve the removal of economic blockades that have severely impacted the Iranian economy. The international community is watching closely, as these are the first significant talks since military strikes occurred last summer.
