Federal police have announced today that 6,543 officers will be deployed for the latest iteration of Op Selamat, starting immediately. This massive deployment is designed to manage the surge in road traffic expected for the upcoming Chinese New Year and early Ramadan holidays. Authorities are bracing for a record number of vehicles on major highways and have warned that "total enforcement" will be applied to prevent accidents.

In addition to road safety, a separate debate has sparked online regarding a recent traffic summons for a rear seat belt offence. While rear seat belt usage has been mandatory for years, the viral notice issued on February 7 has led the Road Transport Department (RTD) to reiterate that they are stepping up enforcement on this often-overlooked rule. Netizens have been reminded through various media channels today that all passengers, not just drivers, must be buckled up to avoid fines.

Further on the legal front, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed today that it will submit its investigation papers regarding graft allegations against the Environment Department's top leadership to the deputy public prosecutor this Friday. Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that the papers include recommendations to charge both the director-general and deputy director-general. This move is part of the government's broader "firm action" strategy, which has recently seen Malaysia climb to 54th place in the global Corruption Perceptions Index.
