Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan informed Parliament today that more than 14.6 million Malaysians have successfully benefited from the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) targeted fuel subsidy program as of February 11, 2026. The system, which processes an average of 3.1 million transactions daily, allows eligible citizens to purchase RON95 petrol at a subsidised rate of RM1.99 per litre directly at the pump using their MyKad for verification.
This high utilisation rate demonstrates that the MyKad-based mechanism is stable and well-accepted by the public, effectively replacing more complicated registration procedures. The government is now considering replicating this targeting mechanism for other essential goods such as cooking oil and sugar. Meanwhile, the retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia was slightly adjusted to RM2.99 per litre today due to global oil price trends, while prices in East Malaysia remain unchanged at RM2.15.
The government also highlighted that targeted fiscal reforms are allowing for accelerated tax refunds, with full settlement for the Year of Assessment 2023 expected by the end of February 2026. This is ahead of the original first-quarter target, reflecting improved administrative efficiency and the success of the e-invoicing transition for businesses.
