The Perlis Football Association (PFA) has officially announced its intention to appeal to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for the reinstatement of its status as an affiliate member. Newly re-elected PFA President Zamri Ibrahim confirmed the decision following the association's Annual Congress, stating that the body will seek to have its previous expulsion rescinded rather than applying for entirely new membership.
Perlis was previously expelled from the national governing body due to unresolved administrative and financial issues that had plagued the state association for several seasons. However, under the new 2026–2030 committee, Zamri believes the PFA has met the necessary criteria and resolved the outstanding "technical errors" that led to their removal. The appeal is expected to be formally submitted once the new FAM leadership committee is officially inaugurated later this month.
The move is seen as a vital step toward reviving professional football in the northern state, which has been without a representative in the top tiers of the Malaysian League since the expulsion. Fans in Kangar have expressed cautious optimism, hoping that a successful reinstatement will allow the "Northern Lions" to begin the long journey back to the Malaysia Super League by first re-entering the M3 or MFL Challenge Cup circuits.
