His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, has issued a sharp warning that no government agency, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), is exempt from his scrutiny in the fight against graft. In a statement today, the King emphasized that his "radar" extends beyond just those giving and receiving bribes, specifically naming the Royal Malaysian Police, the Immigration Department, and the Customs Department as agencies that must be wary.
The King stressed that corruption is a betrayal of public trust that will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He warned that "whoever eats the chili will feel the heat," indicating that he has his own independent intelligence network and is well-aware of ongoing issues within various departments. His Majesty further advised that officers who fail to perform their duties with integrity should be transferred or replaced immediately by more qualified and honest individuals.
This royal warning comes amidst heightened public discourse surrounding the MACC and other enforcement bodies. Simultaneously, the government has entrusted a special committee to investigate share ownership issues involving MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed today that the Cabinet is leaving the full investigation to this committee, noting that Azam has expressed openness to being investigated.
