Malaysia’s sophisticated approach to determining the start of Ramadan has earned international acclaim, with several nations now adopting it as a benchmark. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Zulkifli Hassan stated today, 18 February 2026, that the country's success lies in the seamless integration of traditional Islamic astronomy (Ilmu Falak Syarie) with cutting-edge observatory technology. This recognition highlights Malaysia's leadership in the global Muslim community regarding religious administration and scientific precision.

The nationwide moon-sighting process, which involves dozens of observation points across the peninsula and East Malaysia, is overseen by the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal. International observers have noted that Malaysia’s data-driven methodology provides the most consistent and accurate results for the regional lunar calendar. As a result, the Malaysian model is being studied by neighboring countries in Southeast Asia and parts of the Middle East to help synchronize religious festivities.

As the holy month is expected to begin tomorrow, 19 February, government agencies like the Road Transport Department (JPJ) have already announced shortened operational hours to facilitate the fasting period. The Minister also urged the public to utilize digital platforms for religious services and zakat payments to avoid congestion at physical counters. This modernization of religious practices continues to be a key pillar of Malaysia's "Madani" administrative vision.
