Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) announced today that its domestic network recorded 9.4 million passenger movements in January 2026, marking a strong opening for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026). This surge represents a significant year-on-year growth, with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) alone handling 5.9 million passengers, an 8.2% increase compared to the previous year. 

Penang International Airport also saw a notable 3.8% rise in passenger traffic, reaching over 741,000 movements. Industry analysts suggest that the uptick in travel is a positive indicator for the tourism sector's recovery and the success of early VMY 2026 promotional campaigns. To support the increased demand, Rapid Rail has already announced plans to extend peak-hour services throughout the upcoming Ramadan period.
