A trio of young swimmers from the Persatuan Akuatik Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan (PAL) delivered an exceptional performance today at the 4th Brunei National Age Group Swimming Championship. Competing against 16 clubs from across Southeast Asia, the Malaysian team secured a total of 11 medals, surpassing their initial target of 10. The performance highlights the growing talent pool in East Malaysia’s aquatic sports scene.

Nine-year-old Chanelle Ezra Teo was the standout athlete of the meet, single-handedly contributing one gold and seven silver medals to the team’s tally. Her teammates, Hazel Delaney Kaur Sandhu and Langston Ting Kie Hao, also recorded impressive times, with Hazel adding three bronze medals. Team manager Wenona Ling Li Wei expressed pride in the athletes, noting that most of them achieved new personal best times during the competition.

This success comes as Malaysia intensifies its focus on junior athlete development in preparation for the 2027 SEA Games which will be hosted on home soil. State-level associations are increasingly being encouraged to participate in regional international meets to expose young talents to high-pressure environments. The PAL swimmers’ achievement is seen as a positive step toward building a competitive national aquatic contingent for the future.
