In a move to ensure continuity for the national karate program, former SEA Games multi-gold medalist R. Sharmendran has had his contract extended as head coach until the 2027 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games. The decision reflects the National Sports Council’s confidence in Sharmendran's leadership as the squad ramps up preparations for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

The national karate team is currently undergoing intensive training to identify and groom new talent alongside seasoned veterans. Sharmendran’s immediate focus will be on the Asian Games, where Malaysia aims to maintain its status as a regional powerhouse in the sport. His extension is seen as a vital step in stabilizing the coaching structure following recent performance reviews.

Similarly, the Equestrian Association of Malaysia (EAM) has announced a target of two medals for the upcoming Asian Games. The association is focusing on enhancing the endurance levels of its riders and horses to compete effectively against top-tier opponents from Japan and South Korea.
