The BCCI is reportedly set to announce the schedule for the initial phase of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) today or tomorrow. The tournament is expected to begin on March 28, 2026, with the final scheduled for May 31 in Bengaluru. Due to assembly elections in several states, including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, the schedule is being released in two phases to ensure proper security arrangements for home matches in cities like Kolkata and Chennai.

Recent auction results have already reshaped the league's competitive landscape. Cameron Green made headlines by becoming the most expensive overseas player in IPL history with a ₹25.20 crore deal, while uncapped players like Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma fetched surprising bids of ₹14.20 crore each from Chennai Super Kings. Teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders are finalizing their strategies, with the opening and final matches confirmed to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In Hyderabad, the local cricket association held a pre-planning meeting today to review logistical arrangements, crowd management, and security for upcoming matches at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. With the T20 World Cup just concluding, star players like Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma are expected to join their respective franchises immediately to prepare for the season opener. The "cricket carnival" is officially in its final countdown.
