The first group of Malaysians stranded in Dubai since February 28, 2026, arrived safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 9:40 pm last night, March 5. These individuals had been stuck for six days following the sudden closure of regional airspace due to the escalating military conflict in the Middle East. Traveling via Emirates flight EK342, the returning citizens expressed deep relief after enduring a terrifying experience that included emergency alerts advising them to seek cover and the sound of mid-night explosions believed to be missile interceptions.

While some travelers have returned, thousands remain in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Wisma Putra estimates that approximately 8,500 Malaysians are currently in the UAE, with about 5,900 formally registered with diplomatic missions. The Consulate General of Malaysia in Dubai is operating 24 hours a day to assist those still awaiting onward travel. Stranded citizens have been advised to verify all hotel and airline payment arrangements directly, as reports surfaced of some hotels charging fees despite local authorities initially announcing they would cover accommodation costs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively coordinating further evacuation efforts using its e-Konsular database to track and assist registered Malaysians. A strict travel advisory remains in force, urging Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to seven affected countries, including the UAE, Iran, and Jordan, until the security situation stabilizes. Citizens still in the region are strongly encouraged to register or update their details immediately via the e-Konsular portal to facilitate future evacuation arrangements.
