Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified today, March 6, 2026, that there is no need to introduce new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or review existing security protocols following the recent commotion at the Meru police station in Kapar. He described the incident as an "isolated case" involving a private dispute between two groups and maintained that the current security measures at police stations nationwide are sufficient. The Minister emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police Standing Orders (IGPSO) already provide comprehensive directives for maintaining order and safety at all stations.
The incident occurred on Monday, March 2, when two groups engaged in a fight outside the station before moving the altercation inside the premises. One party entered the station to lodge a report regarding the dispute, while the other followed them in an attempt to obstruct the process. During the scuffle, a television set was damaged and one individual was allegedly struck with a metal rod. Saifuddin expressed disappointment over irresponsible social media claims that suggested the police station itself was under attack, clarifying that the officers on duty managed the situation according to their training.
Following the commotion, police have arrested eight local men aged between 28 and 44 to assist with investigations. The dispute is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding over security control at a housing development site. The Home Minister has urged the public to stop spreading inaccurate information that could cause unnecessary concern about public safety, reiterating that the police remain fully capable of handling such disturbances under existing official directives.
