Malaysia’s Silat Olahraga team has asserted its dominance at the 2026 International Invitation Silat Championships held in Jakarta, sweeping a total of five gold medals. Leading the charge was world champion Al Jufferi Jamari, who displayed a masterclass in technique and agility to defeat his Indonesian counterpart in the Class F final. This victory reinforces Malaysia’s status as a powerhouse in the traditional martial art, specifically in the "Tanding" (match) categories.
The Malaysian contingent also saw success in the "Seni" (artistic) categories, with the female trio winning gold for their synchronized performance. National coach Datuk Sohimi Salleh noted that the team’s rigorous preparation at the National Silat Complex in Gombak has paid off, particularly in their improved defensive maneuvers and stamina. The championships served as a crucial warm-up for the 2026 World Silat Championships, where Malaysia expects to face even stiffer competition from European and Central Asian nations.
The Malaysian National Silat Federation (PESAKA) is now looking to expand its grassroots scouting program to identify new talent for the 2027 SEA Games. Plans are underway to introduce more inter-school Silat competitions across the country to ensure a steady pipeline of "Pesilat" (fighters). With the current elite squad in peak form, the federation is confident that Malaysia will remain the team to beat in global Silat competitions throughout the 2026 season.
