Athletes from the Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) achieved an outstanding performance at the Borneo International SUP Marathon 2026, bringing home three gold medals. The victories came in the 21km race categories, with Yoann Martin winning the men’s open, Reena James taking the women’s open, and Koh Cheng Hsiung clinching the men’s masters.
In addition to the gold haul, the club secured a silver medal through Tiong Jia Yi and three bronze medals delivered by Susan Pan, Jarrow Marcus, and the relay team. The competition was fierce, with Malaysian participants facing off against well-prepared teams from Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia. Club commodore Albert Shim praised the athletes for their endurance and team spirit on the international stage.
Team captain Sandeep Singh Gill received special mention for his inspiring leadership, which was credited as a major factor in the club's success. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Malaysian water sports, showcasing local talent in the growing discipline of Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP). The club now shifts its focus to maintaining this momentum for upcoming regional regattas.
