A tragic three vehicle collision occurred early this morning at KM212 of the Johor Bahru to Seremban road in Segamat, resulting in three fatalities and two serious injuries. The accident involved a van that was struck by a trailer, which then veered into the opposite lane and collided with a 10 tonne lorry.

Initial police investigations revealed that the 45 year old trailer driver tested positive for methamphetamine following a mandatory drug screening after the crash. The driver has been arrested and will be remanded to facilitate further investigations under the Road Transport Act.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke had recently reiterated that the government is in "crisis mode" regarding road safety, especially with the rise in accidents involving drivers under the influence of illicit substances. This incident has sparked renewed calls from public safety experts for stricter penalties for intoxicated driving.
