A 53 year old staff member at the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Sports Bowl in Tanjong Malim was found dead early this morning. Firefighters received an emergency call at 1:57 am and discovered the victim, identified as Mohd Radzi Ariffin, inside a locked cleaning equipment storage room. 

Upon arrival, the rescue team had to have the UPSI auxiliary police unlock the door to gain access to the victim. Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health pronounced him dead at the scene shortly thereafter. The rescue operation was officially concluded at 2:36 am. 

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of death, though no initial signs of foul play have been reported. The incident has caused shock among the university community in Perak. Officials are currently working to determine the circumstances that led to the staff member being trapped in the room.
