Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has officially been sworn in as the President of Myanmar, a move that places him at the center of an urgent test for the country's internal stability. His presidency comes at a critical time for Myanmar's engagement with ASEAN, as regional leaders look for signs of a peaceful resolution to the nation's ongoing civil unrest.

In other regional news, Vietnam continues to solidify its position as a major manufacturing hub with a massive new investment from the Korean Posco Group to build a mega battery plant. This development highlights a broader trend of supply chain diversification across Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, trade between Cambodia and international partners has reached a robust $16 billion in the first quarter of 2026, driven by strong manufacturing exports.

Environmental concerns are also mounting in the region, with experts warning that falling river levels are putting unprecedented pressure on water security. Governments in the ASEAN Region are reportedly backing a $30 billion facility led by the Asian Development Bank to bolster regional resilience against these global turbulences.
