The Selangor state government has officially approved a substantial allocation of RM990.41 million for the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to execute 13 new Flood Mitigation Plans (RTB). Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari confirmed today that the funds are aimed at creating climate-resilient infrastructure in the Klang district, which has historically been vulnerable to intense downpours. The initiative is part of the broader Selangor Water Masterplan, designed to address not just flooding, but also drought prevention and water reserve management.

This major investment reflects a transition toward holistic water management rather than piecemeal repairs. Key projects under this plan include micro-tunnelling works at Jalan Tepi Sungai and drainage upgrades in low-lying residential zones. The authorities have emphasized that these designs are intended to be completed by 2029, providing long-term security for thousands of households that have suffered recurring property damage over the last few years.

As the monsoon transition begins this week, residents in flood-prone areas like Gombak, Petaling, and Klang have been urged to stay vigilant. While the long-term projects are underway, the state has already activated temporary relief centers (PPS) and coordinated with volunteer groups to assist vulnerable citizens, including seniors and those with disabilities. This fiscal move is seen as a critical step in safeguarding the state's economic heartland from the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
