Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today, April 14, 2026, that Malaysians travelling between the peninsula and East Malaysia will receive a RM50 airfare discount for the upcoming Gawai and Kaamatan festive season. This initiative, supported by a RM5 million allocation from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), is a collaboration with Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, and Batik Air. The rebate period will run from May 15 to June 14, and it is expected to benefit roughly 100,000 travellers during the peak holiday period.

In separate consumer news, the Ministry of Health (MoH) and domestic trade officials have reassured the public that Malaysia's essential goods and medicine supplies remain stable. Despite global uncertainties, the government has advised against panic buying or hoarding, specifically noting that medicine supplies are secure until at least the end of June. Authorities are closely monitoring the supply chain to ensure retailers like Lotus's Malaysia and Mydin remain well stocked for daily necessities.

On the corporate front, Bursa Malaysia announced it will suspend the trading of Sentoria Group Bhd shares on April 21, 2026, following a winding up order by the High Court. Meanwhile, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Datuk Chang Lih Kang, launched National Science Week (MSN) 2026 at the University of Nottingham Malaysia today. During the event, he emphasized the need for Malaysia to strengthen its "technological sovereignty" to remain resilient during future global supply chain disruptions.
