Malaysia's national badminton squad has suffered a significant setback as star women's doubles player Pearly Tan officially pulled out of the upcoming Uber Cup in Denmark. The world No. 2 pair, consisting of Pearly and M. Thinaah, will not be able to compete together due to a recurring back injury Pearly sustained during the recent Asia Championships. This withdrawal is a major blow to Malaysia's hopes in the tournament, as they lose their top ranked doubles partnership just days before the event begins.
Pearly issued an emotional statement expressing her heartbreak over the decision, noting that while she desperately wanted to fight for the team, her body forced her to stop. Following an MRI scan, the medical team and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) decided it was best for her long term health to prioritize recovery. As a result, the national squad will travel to Denmark with a restructured lineup, and Thinaah is expected to be paired with a different partner for the duration of the tournament.
Despite this loss, veteran leader Aaron Chia remains optimistic about the overall team preparation, particularly for the men's Thomas Cup squad. The national team is currently undergoing a centralized training camp in Herning, utilizing several junior national pairs as sparring partners to simulate high intensity match conditions. Coach Rexy Mainaky and the management are focused on ensuring the remaining players stay physically and mentally sharp for the challenging group stages ahead.
