The 10th Yang Di Pertua Negeri Sarawak (TYT) Cup and Borneo Cup 2026 Muay Thai Championships officially kicked off today at the Kuching Waterfront, featuring 350 fighters from 31 different clubs. The competition has drawn international participation, with representatives from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam joining local fighters from Sarawak, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia. The event is one of the largest martial arts gatherings in the region this year.

The championship serves as a critical platform for talent scouting, especially as state teams look to finalize their lineups for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA). A new memorandum of understanding was also signed today between the Sarawak Muaythai Association and the Pahlawan Championship to introduce more professional tier bouts in the future. Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan noted that the scale of the event significantly contributes to the local economy and places Sarawak firmly on the international Muay Thai map.

The four day tournament features amateur, semi professional, and professional categories, culminating in the determination of overall champions on the final day based on total medal tallies. Fans have gathered in large numbers at the waterfront to witness high intensity bouts, highlighting the sport's growing popularity in Malaysia. The integration of international fighters is expected to raise the competitive standard for local athletes ahead of their next major regional assignments.
