The Ministry of National Unity has officially launched the "Semarak Perpaduan" program today, a nationwide initiative designed to strengthen social cohesion among Malaysia's diverse ethnic groups. The program features a series of community-based activities, including cultural exchanges, traditional sports competitions, and "gotong-royong" (communal work) projects in various neighborhoods. The launch event in Putrajaya saw thousands of participants from various backgrounds coming together to celebrate national identity.
Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang highlighted that the program's core objective is to move beyond mere tolerance and foster genuine understanding and respect between communities. By bringing people together through shared interests and local volunteerism, the ministry hopes to build a more resilient social fabric that can withstand digital age polarization. The program will also involve "Kawasan Rukun Tetangga" (KRT) units across the country to ensure the initiatives reach the grassroots level.
In addition to physical activities, the program includes a digital storytelling component where Malaysians can share their personal stories of unity and friendship on social media using dedicated hashtags. These stories will be curated into a digital "Unity Gallery" to showcase the positive side of Malaysian multiculturalism. The ministry plans to make this an annual event, with different states taking turns to host the national level celebrations in the coming years.
