In a dominant display of distance running, Kenyan athletes John Korir and Sharon Lokedi delivered historic performances to defend their titles at the 130th Boston Marathon on Monday. Korir crossed the finish line in a blistering time of 2:04:45, marking one of the fastest times ever recorded on the challenging hilly course. His victory was complemented by Lokedi’s stellar run in the women’s division, where she led a remarkable Kenyan clean sweep of the podium, further cementing the nation's status as the undisputed leader in global marathon running.

The race featured nearly perfect conditions, with cool temperatures and a slight tailwind that encouraged an aggressive pace from the elite field right from the start. Korir broke away from the lead group near the 20-mile mark, utilizing the famous Heartbreak Hill to distance himself from Tanzania's Alphonce Simbu. In the women's race, Lokedi stayed patient within the lead pack before unleashing a powerful sprint in the final two miles to hold off reigning Olympic champion Hellen Obiri and newcomer Edna Kiplagat.

The event also saw a significant boost in participation levels, with over 30,000 runners taking part and faster average qualifying times than in previous years. This surge reflects the growing global popularity of elite marathon events and the increasing depth of talent in the international running community. As the winners receive their olive wreaths and $150,000 prizes today, the athletics world shifts its focus toward the upcoming London Marathon, where many of these elite stars are expected to face off once again.
