The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has officially named national stars Aaron Chia and M. Thinaah as the captains for the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Denmark. The tournament, set to begin on April 24, will see Malaysia's men's team competing in Group B against formidable rivals Japan, England, and Finland. Aaron Chia expressed confidence in the squad's preparation, citing a recent high intensity training camp in Europe that has helped the players adapt to the local conditions and faster shuttlecocks used in the region.

The Uber Cup squad faces a slightly more challenging road following the late withdrawal of Pearly Tan due to a recurring knee injury. In her absence, youngster Chong Jie Yu has been fast-tracked into the team to partner M. Thinaah, creating a fresh and unpredictable tactical pairing for their matches against Chinese Taipei and Australia. National coaching director Rexy Mainaky emphasized that while the loss of Pearly is a setback, the team's depth and the leadership of Thinaah will be crucial in motivating the younger players to step up on the world stage.

Expectations back home are high, with Malaysian fans hoping for a podium finish for the men’s team for the first time in several years. The Thomas Cup squad features a strong mix of experience and youth, with Lee Zii Jia leading the singles department and the world class pair of Chia Soh anchoring the doubles. BAM has confirmed that all players have cleared their final medical checks and will fly to Aarhus tonight, ready to begin their quest for badminton's most prestigious team trophy.
