Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) saw their historic run in the AFC Champions League Elite come to an end today following a narrow 2-1 quarter final loss to Saudi giants Al Ahli in Jeddah. Despite taking a shock early lead through an own goal and enjoying a numerical advantage after a red card for the hosts, the Southern Tigers were unable to withstand a late second-half surge. The defeat marks the end of a remarkable campaign for the Malaysian champions, who had become the first Southeast Asian club to reach this stage under the new "Elite" tournament format.

The match took a turn for the worse for JDT when star striker Jairo Da Silva suffered a severe concussion following a heavy collision in the penalty area and had to be rushed to a local hospital. Without their primary attacking threat, JDT struggled to maintain possession in the final third, allowing Al Ahli to capitalize on two defensive lapses in the closing fifteen minutes. Coach Xisco Muñoz expressed pride in his players' performance, stating that they proved Malaysian football can compete with the wealthiest clubs in Asia despite the disappointing final result.

While the exit is painful, JDT’s performance throughout the tournament has significantly boosted Malaysia’s club coefficient ranking, ensuring more direct entry spots for local teams in future editions. The squad is expected to return to Johor Bahru tomorrow to begin preparations for the domestic league restart and the upcoming FA Cup defense. Management has confirmed that Jairo Da Silva is in stable condition, though he will undergo further neurological testing before being cleared to return to training.
