A deadly attack on the Guyaku community in the Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State has left at least 29 people dead. According to residents and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the assault occurred late Sunday afternoon while many residents, particularly young people, were gathered at a local football pitch. Witnesses described a chaotic scene where insurgents entered the community on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately for several hours.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly claimed responsibility for the massacre, stating that its fighters targeted the village and torched several buildings. In addition to the loss of life, the attackers set fire to a church, approximately 100 houses, and dozens of motorcycles, leaving a trail of destruction across the rural settlement. Governor Fintiri, who visited the scene on Monday, described the incident as "tragic and unacceptable" and vowed that the act of cowardice would not go unpunished.

The region has faced a surge in violence recently, with a similar attack occurring just a week prior in the nearby Mayo Ladde community of the Hong Local Government Area, where nine people were killed. Security forces have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy and track down the perpetrators, as the Nigerian government looks toward increased international support to combat the resurgence of militant groups in the northeast.
