Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the issue of rising prices affecting petty traders will be a key agenda at this Wednesday's Cabinet meeting. During a visit to Putrajaya, the Prime Minister shared that direct feedback from food stall operators indicates gradual but significant weekly price increases that are squeezing their business margins. He emphasized that while official data may suggest prices are under control, the government must prioritize the "grassroots reality" when formulating policy.

Additionally, the Prime Minister assured the public that the upcoming austerity measures intended to manage the nation's ballooning subsidy bill will not compromise core services. He clarified that critical areas such as healthcare services and the recruitment of new doctors and nurses will remain unaffected by any expenditure reviews. This clarification comes as the government works to balance financial constraints with the need to protect the most vulnerable segments of society from rising living costs.

Regarding the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Anwar confirmed that Malaysia's domestic oil and gas supply remains secure. However, he noted that the government's finances are under strain as it continues to subsidize Budi95 petrol to maintain its price at RM1.99 per litre despite surging global fuel costs. The Prime Minister reiterated that these price pressures are driven by external factors beyond the nation's control.
