A historic proposal to rename the National Velodrome in Nilai as the "Azizulhasni Awang National Velodrome" gained massive public and political support today. The movement seeks to honour Dato' Muhammad Azizulhasni Awang, popularly known as "The Pocket Rocketman," for his unparalleled contributions to Malaysian cycling. Supporters argue that, as the nation’s most decorated track cyclist, his name on the facility would serve as a permanent inspiration for future generations of athletes.

Azizulhasni’s career has been a series of "firsts" for Malaysia, including his historic Olympic medals and his 2017 Keirin World Championship title. The proposal gained momentum on social media today, with former teammates and sports icons vocalising their approval of the tribute. Government officials have indicated that they are open to the suggestion, noting that Azizulhasni’s legacy transcends the sport, embodying the "Malaysia Boleh" spirit on the global stage.

If approved, the renaming ceremony is expected to be a major national event, celebrating a legend who consistently defied physical odds to compete against much larger opponents. The National Velodrome in Nilai is already the heart of Malaysian track cycling, and associating it with the "Pocket Rocketman" name is seen as a fitting "thank you" for his years of sacrifice. This tribute comes at a time when the nation is reflecting on his immense impact as he moves into a mentorship role within the sport.
