Defending men’s doubles champion Man Wei Chong is currently in a race against time to be fit for the upcoming Malaysia Masters. A persistent knee injury has cast a shadow over his participation, leaving national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky to monitor his recovery on a daily basis. Wei Chongand his partner Tee Kai Wun are the world number six pair and a vital part of Malaysia’s badminton hopes on home soil.

The injury previously limited Wei Chong to just one appearance during the recent Thomas Cup, where Malaysia's campaign ended in the quarter finals. Rexy Mainaky noted that while the medical team prefers extended rest, the high intensity nature of professional play makes the decision difficult with only ten days until the tournament begins. If his recovery does not show significant improvement, the pair may also be forced to skip the subsequent Singapore Open.

Malaysian fans are anxious for a positive medical update, as a home tournament without the defending champions would be a major blow. In other badminton news, Goh Jin Wei is reportedly focused on recovering her form after missing the cut for the upcoming World Championships in August. The national team is currently in a transitional phase, seeking to address discipline and performance gaps ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.
