Director Lee Cronin’s supernatural horror feature The Mummy successfully captured the No. 1 spot at the Malaysian box office following its highly anticipated theatrical debut. Distributed locally by Warner Bros. Pictures, the modern reimagining of the iconic monster has resonated strongly with local audiences since its release on April 16, 2026. According to theatrical records from Malay Mail, the film managed to edge out massive global and local competitors to dominate weekend ticket sales.

The horror film outpaced major cinematic properties, tracking entirely ahead of Hollywood’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the popular domestic martial arts sequel Gayong 2. Theater operators like TGV Cinemas capitalized on the heavy fan interest by organizing immersive public exhibitions, including a dedicated, life sized attraction at Sunway Pyramid. Showtimes remain widely active across more than 107 premium cinema locations nationwide, pulling healthy mid week crowds via specialized IMAX 2D and Dolby Atmos formats.

While the film enjoyed a strong initial reign at the top tier of local charts, recent weekly updates from Box Office Mojo indicate a shifting box office landscape as new May blockbusters enter rotation. The musical biopic Michael further down the weekly top ten rankings. Nevertheless, the horror feature's cumulative Malaysian gross has reached an impressive $2.5 million, marking it as one of the most successful international releases of the second quarter.
