The Dutch government has officially announced that the cruise vessel MV Hondius is expected to dock at the Port of Rotterdam. Upon arrival, the vast majority of the crew members will be immediately placed under a mandatory, strict six week medical isolation. The aggressive containment protocol follows confirmed reports of a localized hantavirus outbreak on board the ship.

National health ministries are working closely with port authorities to establish a secure medical perimeter around the vessel to prevent external transmission. While passengers had already been safely disembarked at a previous stop, the crew must remain isolated for medical monitoring and treatment. The decision highlights the rigid border health measures being deployed across European ports to handle infectious pathogens.

Epidemiologists note that hantaviruses are typically transmitted through contact with infected rodents and can cause severe respiratory or hemorrhagic conditions in humans. Public health agencies emphasized that the risk to the general public in Rotterdam remains exceedingly low due to the swift quarantine strategy. Marine logistics companies are tracking the situation closely to assess the economic impacts on regional commercial cruise schedules
