Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) President Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz announced that errant national players face immediate tournament bans if they flout internal codes of conduct. Speaking during an official sports club launch in Ampang, the president emphasized that behavioral standards will be heavily enforced across all national training squads.

The sudden regulatory clampdown is a direct response to rising concerns voiced by BAM Performance Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei. The legendary ex-shuttler publicly warned that ongoing disciplinary lapses among elite players are actively damaging Malaysia’s global competitive edge. Under the rigid new framework, players skipping mandatory training sessions or breaking curfews will be barred from lucrative BWF World Tour events.

Tengku Zafrul explicitly stated that the governing body will prioritize supreme professionalism over raw talent to restore focus within Academy Badminton Malaysia. The proactive policy has immediately reshaped the operational expectations for all top tier and back up national athletes. Players and coaches alike must now fully adhere to the strict guidelines or risk missing out on vital international experience.
