An Air France flight bound from Paris to Detroit was abruptly forced to divert to Montreal, Canada, following an emergency public health protocol. The diversion was triggered when airline staff realized a passenger from the Democratic Republic of the Congo had boarded the plane "in error". The United States has recently enforced strict entry bans on travelers coming out of the DRC due to a rapidly intensifying Ebola outbreak spreading across Central Africa.

Upon landing in Canada, the aircraft was met by emergency quarantine officers and border processing authorities. The Congolese passenger was officially denied entry into the United States under the current biosecurity travel restrictions. Simultaneously, international health agencies have reported that an Ebola treatment center inside Africa was intentionally burned down, complicating containment measures on the ground.

The World Health Organization (WHO) released an updated risk assessment, stating that while the danger of Ebola remains exceptionally high in Congo and Uganda, it does not currently pose a massive threat to global populations. Security teams are systematically auditing boarding gates at European travel hubs to prevent similar oversight errors. Passengers aboard the diverted flight are undergoing secondary screening protocols before being cleared to continue their journeys.
