KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia will look to build on his recent momentum as he begins his campaign at the Taiwan Open on Wednesday.

The independent shuttler showed signs of a revival four weeks ago by reaching the Canada Open semi-finals - his best result since winning bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics - following a spell plagued by injuries and inconsistency.

World No. 54 Zii Jia, who bypasses the qualifying rounds, faces Taiwan's world No. 63 Liao Jhuo Fu in the main draw first round.

Zii Jia holds a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Taiwanese player.

A tougher test awaits in the second round, where he could meet either Taiwan's All England champion Lin Chun Yi or 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Anthony Ginting of Indonesia.

A win against either player would mark a significant breakthrough for the 2021 All England champion, who has not defeated a top-tier opponent in recent months.

In other men's singles matches, world No. 51 Justin Hoh takes on Indonesia's Zaki Ubaidullah, who leads their head-to-head record 3-1, while world No. 79 Eogene Ewe plays India's Saneeth Dayanand.

In the women's singles, Goh Jin Wei returns to action after recovering from an injury sustained at the Macau Open in June.

She faces Canada's world No. 43 Zhang Wen Yu in her opening match.

The Super 300 tournament begins on Tuesday with qualifying rounds across all events, alongside the start of the mixed doubles main draw.

Malaysia's main focus in the mixed doubles will be on BA of Malaysia (BAM) pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin and scratch combination Chen Tang Jie-Clarissa San.
