PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun secured a convincing win over a Chinese pair in their opening tie of the World Championships in New Delhi to advance to the second round.
Also advancing to the next round is women’s singles player Wong Ling Ching, who won her opening match against a Peruvian player in just 23 minutes.
World No 11 pair Wei Chong-Kai Wun powered past 34th-ranked Huang Di-Liu Yang 21-14, 21-15 in 36 minutes to set up a second-round clash with compatriots Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.
This was the Malaysian pair’s third victory over their rivals in as many meetings.
World No 36 Ling Ching had some difficulty against world No 143 Namie Miyahira Tsukazan before winning 21-10, 21-12.
However, the Malaysian player will face her true test in the next round as she will face Japan’s world No 2 Akane Yamaguchi who has been in top form this year.
