According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as of May 2024, the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) has received 37,002 calls from scam victims, resulting in reported losses totaling RM203.33 million.
Since its inception on October 12, 2022, the NSRC has received 95,094 calls from the public.
Responding to a query by Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai) on the NSRC's effectiveness in combating online fraud, Anwar disclosed in a parliamentary response published online that the Royal Malaysian Police have initiated investigations into 10,649 fraud cases under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
Furthermore, authorities have opened 74 money laundering cases, freezing 637 accounts containing RM72.38 million.
Anwar highlighted collaborative efforts between the NSRC and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to block phone numbers associated with scams.
