ALOR GAJAH: The Melaka state government will be distributing an immediate aid of RM300 to every household that registers at the temporary relief centers (PPS) following the Masjid Tanah floods.

In a Facebook post, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the monetary aid is given through the Melaka State Disaster Fund.

Rauf visited several victims of the flood in Pekan Masjid Tanah, Taman Masjid Tanah Ria, and Taman Bandar Baru Masjid Tanah alongside Melaka state secretary Datuk Azhar Haji Arshad and department heads earlier today.

Rauf expressed his and the government's deepest sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy.

Previously, a Melaka Civil Defence Force spokesman reported a total of 248 victims have been evacuated to five relief centres in Masjid Tanah Alor Gajah as of 7.30pm after floods hit the area in the morning.

According to the spokesman, authorities were expecting a rise in evacuees as the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Jernih was still registering evacuees.
