The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the Indian national who fell into a sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India last Friday resumed today after a brief halt around 5 a.m. By 8 a.m., the SAR team, which includes the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Department of Minerals and Geosciences, had returned to the scene and surrounding area to continue their efforts.

Now on its eighth day, the SAR operation is primarily focused on addressing a 15-meter blockage found in the sewer lines beneath Wisma Yakin, approximately 44 meters from the sinkhole. Earlier attempts to clear debris in the sewer chambers by two JBPM Northern Region Academy divers at 4 a.m. were unsuccessful after nearly 30 minutes of diving.

The area around the sinkhole remains largely unchanged in terms of business operations. While most businesses inside buildings remain open, traders with tents or roadside stalls are not operating.

On August 23, 48-year-old Indian woman G. Vijaya Lakshmi disappeared after falling into the eight-meter-deep sinkhole while heading to a nearby temple. The SAR operation, which began the same day, has involved various security forces and local authorities using techniques such as jetting, flushing, and water suction to address the situation.
