KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — The Malaysian Prisons Department has established an investigation board to determine the cause of a prisoner’s escape from the Emergency Unit of Sungai Buloh Hospital yesterday.

In a statement, the department confirmed that it would take firm action if any negligence or failure to follow procedures is found among those responsible. It emphasized that there would be no compromise on ensuring accountability.

The department also urged the public to assist in locating the escaped inmate by reporting any information about suspicious individuals. Members of the public are encouraged to contact Sungai Buloh Prison at 03-61843333 or the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters at 03-61561222. The department apologized for any inconvenience caused by the incident.

A joint search effort, involving both the Malaysian Prisons Department and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), is currently underway, with the search now expanding to surrounding areas.

Yesterday, reported that the inmate, who was under remand and receiving treatment at the hospital, escaped at 3.56pm. Hospital staff discovered his absence when they noticed he was no longer on his bed and informed the police.
