KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16—Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has activated its operations room to monitor flooding incidents after heavy rainfall caused flash floods in the capital. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, announced that the operations room will oversee CCTV monitoring of 24 flood hotspots, including Jalan Pudu and Jalan Sultan.

Flash floods occurred around 8:30 AM, with rainfall reaching up to 118 millimeters per hour. Immediate flood mitigation measures included activating five pumps and implementing traffic control.

Dr. Zaliha assured that no student residents at Universiti Malaya (UM) were affected, thanks to the university’s flood warning system, though some vehicles were impacted. She noted that debris and leaves in the area may have contributed to blockages and highlighted the need for maintenance of the retention pond, which can hold up to 16,000 cubic meters of water, to enhance its capacity and reduce future flooding risks.
