KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22* — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed today that all appointments to key positions in government-linked companies (GLCs) will undergo rigorous vetting by agencies such as the Inland Revenue Board, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Royal Malaysia Police.
Anwar emphasized the importance of selecting individuals with clean records, stating that professionalism is the primary criterion, regardless of political affiliation. "We do not discriminate between politicians and non-politicians; the key is that they meet the necessary qualifications," he said during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.
However, he clarified that politicians and individuals from certain financial sectors are barred from serving on boards of financial institutions to uphold transparency and integrity. Anwar was responding to Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim’s suggestion that only professionals be appointed to GLC positions.
