Bangladesh Seeks Malaysia’s Help to Extradite Bestinet Founder in Worker Trafficking Probe*
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Bangladesh has requested Malaysia to arrest and extradite Datuk Seri Aminul Islam, founder of Bestinet Sdn Bhd, and businessman Ruhul Amin, for their alleged roles in trafficking and extorting Bangladeshi workers. The two men are accused of running a system that exploited migrant workers and subjected them to abuse, Bloomberg reported, based on an October 24 letter from Bangladesh’s Interpol to its Malaysian counterpart.
Bangladesh has also asked Malaysia to suspend Bestinet’s recruitment software, which has managed migrant worker processing in Malaysia since 2018. Though Aminul, who has Malaysian citizenship, denies the allegations and Bestinet and Ruhul’s representatives have rejected the claims, Bangladesh continues to push for reform to protect migrant laborers from exploitation.
In Malaysia, local authorities, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, previously found no evidence to support allegations of wrongdoing by Bestinet, though the Malaysian government recently extended its contract under stricter conditions to protect foreign workers.
