Malaysia to Focus on Skateboarding, Climbing, and Surfing for Olympic Medal Push, Says Hannah Yeoh*

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced today that Malaysia will prioritize developing skateboarding, climbing, and surfing as key sports for future Olympic medal prospects. The National Sports Council (MSN) will focus on these emerging sports, which are seen as potential sources of Olympic success.

Yeoh also highlighted the government's commitment to sports offering multiple medal opportunities, such as weightlifting, boxing, taekwondo, and gymnastics, inspired by successes in neighboring countries. She emphasized that female athletes will also receive more attention, as there are still opportunities for medals in various Olympic events.

Responding to Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh Deo’s question about the national team’s performance at the Paris Olympics, Yeoh revealed that MSN will hold a post-mortem on November 14. The results of this review will shape strategies for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
