Court Orders Muhyiddin to Pay RM1.35 Million to Lim Guan Eng for Defamation*
PETALING JAYA, Nov 8 — The High Court has ruled that former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin defamed ex-Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng by falsely claiming he revoked the Albukhary Foundation’s tax exemption status. Judicial Commissioner Roz Mawar Rozain ordered Muhyiddin to pay RM1.35 million in damages, stating that his unverified claims were not only false but also potentially damaging in Malaysia's multicultural society.
The total includes RM1.05 million for three defamatory statements, RM350,000 for aggravated damages, and another RM350,000 for exemplary damages. Additionally, Muhyiddin must pay RM50,000 in legal costs. Lim was seen celebrating with DAP leaders and supporters after the ruling, while Muhyiddin was absent from the proceedings.
