Malaysians' Satisfaction with Infrastructure Hits Regional Low, Survey Shows"
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 — A recent survey reveals that just half of Malaysians (51%) are satisfied with the country’s infrastructure, marking the lowest satisfaction rate in the region. While neighbors like Singapore (74%), Indonesia (64%), and Thailand (56%) showed higher satisfaction, Malaysians expressed growing concerns, particularly about flood defenses and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.
The Ipsos report highlighted that only 40% of respondents were satisfied with flood defense systems, reflecting the increasing need for improvements after extreme weather events. Meanwhile, satisfaction with EV infrastructure stands at just 49%, despite growing interest in electric vehicles.
Although digital and renewable energy infrastructure fared better, with 57% and 53% satisfaction rates, over half of Malaysians (58%) believe more must be done to address infrastructure needs. Furthermore, 51% are willing to support higher taxes if it leads to better development.
The survey suggests that increasing investment in infrastructure, including EV facilities, is critical for maintaining Malaysia’s competitiveness.
