KUALA LUMPUR: A 40-year-old secondary school teacher was arrested at Damansara Damai for suspected involvement in drug trafficking activities on Tuesday.

Petaling Jaya police chief assistant commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the arrest was made by a team of policemen from the district police headquarters at around 6.45pm.

During the arrest, police also seized a package believed to contain cannabis weighing about 210g.

"The drug seized from the suspect, who worked as a teacher at a school in the district, has an estimated street value of RM6,300.

"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane if the suspect is convicted," he added.

Following the arrest, the Magistrate's Court in Petaling Jaya approved a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for the suspect.

"The suspect has been remanded to facilitate the investigation until Dec 1.

"Police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information related to drug abuse or trafficking in their community."
