Ayyappan Song Controversy: M.S. Bhaskar Criticizes Isaivani’s Performance, Sparks Debate
A song by Ghanaian singer Isaivani, titled "I Am Sorry, Ayyappa... What Happened to Me?" from 2019, has reignited controversy, especially after being shared widely online. The track, which was part of a performance by the Costless Collections band led by director Pa. Ranjith, has faced backlash from several quarters.
Senior political figures, including BJP's Tamil Nadu leader H. Raja, have questioned why Isaivani hasn’t faced action, citing the song's provocative lyrics. Director Mohan also raised concerns, echoing these sentiments, while Ranjith defended Isaivani, asserting there was nothing wrong with her performance.
The song has stirred ongoing protests over women’s entry into the Ayyappan temple, with some supporting Isaivani and others vehemently opposing her. Actor M.S. Bhaskar, known for his longstanding career in Tamil cinema, also voiced his objections. While praising Isaivani’s voice, Bhaskar criticized the excessive music in the performance and suggested that Isaivani should sing the same song in other languages for a broader audience. His comments have further fueled the heated debate surrounding the issue.
