Despite floodwaters rising up to 1.5 meters, Maznah Salleh, 56, has kept her grocery shop in Kampung Sri Kulim, Kelantan, open to serve villagers in need. Having run the shop since 2017, Maznah has never closed during floods, understanding the high demand for fresh produce among locals who are willing to wade through the waters to buy necessities.

The low-lying area, prone to flooding from the nearby Sungai Melor River and swamp, has seen Maznah take precautions, such as elevating her goods on platforms, after suffering RM5,000 in losses during the 2017 floods. Her shop is a vital source of groceries for nearby villagers during the flood season.

In addition, local villager Hanisah Hamat, 59, shared that some residents have been selling homegrown tapioca to earn extra income. Despite the floods, they harvest and sell the tapioca, which has been well-received by fellow villagers.
